A Pacific Northwest native, I'm a former Warner Bros. executive secretary who was mentored by actor and friend DeForest Kelley (Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy on the original STAR TREK series) for over 30 years. I was De's personal assistant and caregiver during the final months of his life and presented heartfelt sentiments at Paramount Studios' memorial service for him in 1999.
Raised in Tacoma and Cle Elum, Washington, I traveled to nearly half of the United States as a young adult helping my parents with their general contracting business as they built or remodeled restaurants for several of the most-recognizable brand names in the world. I also trained as an animal behaviorist and have volunteered for, and been employed by, various national animal welfare organizations, including the Animal Protection Institute of America and Tippi Hedren's Shambala Preserve (the ROAR Foundation).
I'm "Aunt Kris" to two nieces and two nephews (now adults, half of them with children of their own) and "Auntie Kris" to four outrageously wonderful grand nieces and one grand nephew.
I'm owned by fifteen-year-old rescued feline brothers (Archie and Ashley) and two medium-sized goats (Laverne and Shirley).
I've rescued critters of all types and rehabilitated a number of them: skunks, fawns, raccoons, hawks, Burmese pythons, and a knee-high African serval cat named Deaken who looms as large in one of my books (Serval Son: Spots and Stripes Forever) as he loomed in my life for 17 wonderful years.
